The Westchester, like most 810/812 Cords, is based on a unique welded unitized chassis/body structure with a 125-inch wheelbase. The engine and 4-speed final drive unit are mounted in a subframe that bolts to the body with 20 bolts and is removable for major service and repair, while the transmission is operated by a Bendix electric/vacuum system with a small control lever on the side of the steering column. The 812 Cord engine is a 288.6 CI L-head V-8 with a single Stromberg 2-barrel downdraft carburetor that develops an advertised 125 HP at 3,500 RPM. The Cord engine features finned cast aluminum Bohnalite cylinder heads.
The independent front suspension is supported by a single transverse semi-elliptic leaf spring, and the tubular rear axle rides on a pair of parallel semi-elliptic leaf springs. The wheels are 16-inch steel wheels and mounted with 6.50-16 wide whitewall tires and large chrome-plated full wheel covers with ventilation holes. Hydraulic drum brakes are provided at all four corners.
