1965 Ford Mustang Convertible 289/271 HP engine

8 hits ID #8045

This convertible was ordered in attractive Rangoon Red with a red interior. As a 1964½ model, it has a number of early production characteristics, including unrolled hood edges and 1964’s generator-charging system, which required larger horns mounted low in the engine compartment and a “Generator” warning light in the Falcon-style instrument panel. Delivered new to California, the convertible comes with its 289 High Performance engine and mandatory Hi-Po equipment, including 4-speed manual transmission, 9-inch rear end, dual exhaust and Special Handling Suspension. A factory-supplied “High Performance” plate with checkered flags is sandwiched between the regular 289 emblems and front fenders as the only exterior identification. Options on this rare Hi-Po convertible include a power top and chrome styled steel wheels. Based on Ford’s 289 CI small-block, the Hi-Po is known for its high-revving capability. Differences from the standard 289 include a solid-lifter cam, unique cylinder heads with screw-in rocker-arm studs and heavy-duty valve springs, 595 CFM Autolite 4100 4-barrel carburetor, dual-point distributor and free-flowing exhaust manifolds. Externally, the 289 High Performance came with chrome valve covers and an open-element air cleaner. This is a great opportunity to acquire a rare early production K-code convertible, one of very few known to exist today.
