This final-edition Sting Ray also offered the most powerful engine ever available in a production Corvette: the L71 427 CI Mark IV big-block V-8, appropriately signaled by a most stylish warning sign, the new stinger hood bulge. The factory deliberately underrated the tri-power-equipped L71 at 435 HP at 5,800 RPM, but actual output climbed well past that figure as engine speed rose to the true redline of 6,500 RPM, accompanied by a booming roar that could only come from the big Mark IV engine. The L71 tri-power engine with transistorized ignition, a Muncie M21 close-ratio 4-speed and 3.70 Positraction differential. Refinished in the original Marlboro Maroon with a black interior and black convertible top, it presents the way it left the factory: Soft Ray-tinted windshield, power steering and disc brakes, side exhaust, telescopic steering column, AM/FM radio .
