The GT500 once again received the Police Interceptor 428 CI big-block V-8 modified with a 715 CFM Holley 4-barrel carburetor on an aluminum intake manifold and dressed with finned-aluminum oval air cleaner and valve covers. The engine and surroundings are faithfully detailed and include correct smog-control equipment, Autolite battery, hoses, clamps and spark-plug wires. A 4-speed manual transmission, power steering, power brakes, Tilt-Away steering column, Philco pushbutton AM radio and sport-deck rear seat are also factory-correct features. The Black Deluxe Mustang interior reflects Ford’s increasing influence on Shelby’s GT, combining user friendliness with high-level trim: a two-point roll bar, shoulder harnesses, special instruments and wood-rimmed steering wheel; the late Carroll Shelby’s signature on the passenger-side sun visor is a treasured special touch. The car’s sharp Acapulco Blue Metallic paint and White Lemans stripes confer a distinctly racy look that is maximized by Goodyear 350 white-letter bias-ply tires and Kelsey Hayes 10-spoke wheels.
