Description

This 1974 BMW 2002 Turbo is one of 1,672 examples built during the model’s 18-month production run and was delivered in May 1974.

The 2.0-liter M10 inline-four features Kugelfischer mechanical fuel injection and was fitted with a Kühnle, Kopp, & Kausch turbocharger, 6.9:1 compression pistons, and an auxiliary oil cooler from the factory.

The engine and fuel tank were repainted along with the brake master cylinder and booster during the refurbishment in 2002 that also included re-coring the radiator and resurfacing the exhaust manifold.

An engine overhaul in 2021 consisted of resurfacing the cylinder head, honing the cylinders, repairing threads in the engine block with Time-Sert inserts, and replacing the turbocharger in addition to the following components:

Intake valves
Head gasket
Piston rings
Rod bearings
Main bearings
Timing chain
Oil pump chain
Crankshaft seal
Valve cover gasket
Intake manifold gasket
Oil pan gasket

Power is supplied to the rear wheels by a four-speed manual transmission and a limited-slip differential. Clutch components were replaced in 2002, and the transmission was also serviced with a replacement shaft seal, rear seal, shift linkage, and shift-tower insulation in 2021.

The cabin features bolstered sport seats and a rear bench trimmed in perforated black vinyl.

Woven floor mats protect the carpets, and additional equipment includes front and rear shoulder restraints, a rear-window defroster, and a Boss floating-touchscreen stereo unit with Bluetooth connectivity and compatibility with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

The 15″ Alpina wheels are wrapped in 205/50 Toyo Proxes R888R tires that were mounted in May 2021.

A spare tire in the trunk is mounted on a 13″ steel wheel, which matches the four removed wheels that also come with the car.

Bilstein shock absorbers are installed at each corner, and stopping power is provided by power-assisted front disc and rear drum brakes.

In August 2021, the ball joints and a control arm were replaced in addition to the rear brake cylinders, drums, and shoes.

The replacement three-spoke steering wheel fronts a red instrument bezel and a 150-mph speedometer, a tachometer, and auxiliary gauges for fuel level and coolant temperature.

An analog clock and a boost gauge are housed in a central pod on the dashboard.

The five-digit odometer shows 60k miles.
