The single-generation Bronco II was nearly a foot shorter than its competitor at Chevrolet, and all were 4-wheel drive vehicles up until 1986, when the rear-wheel drive layout became standard. Ford Bronco IIs produced in 1984-85 were equipped with Ford’s German-built, carbureted 2.8L Cologne V-6, good for 115 HP at 4,600 RPM, one that consumers took advantage of with the Bronco II outselling the Bronco nearly 2:1 in 1985—it seemed people simply preferred the smaller Bronco II.
